The general mission of the Proteome Center is to provide the technologies needed for linking
gene structure to function. This will ultimately lead to a new understanding of complex systems. The
center will contribute to the training of a new generation of researchers for the post-genome era.
The specific missions of the Proteome Center include the following:
- Develop a multidisciplinary center of excellence in proteome studies focused on the development and application of new technologies.
- Develop a base of expertise in proteome studies and functional genomics through hiring skilled personnel and a post-doctoral training program.
- Provide advanced training in post-genome technologies for medical researchers.
- Sponsor dissemination of information through symposia and a speaker program.
- Collaborate actively with investigators at the University of Michigan as well as with investigators at other research institutions and industry to apply the technologies developed within the center and to effectively commercialize appropriate developments in collaboration with the University of Michigan Technology Transfer Office.
- Encourage interactions between the University and Industry in order to facilitate transfer of expertise and technologies.
- Provide access to new technologies as rapidly and effectively as possible for University investigators and industrial sponsors.
- Actively promote national and international participation in the Center to increase access to the new technologies developed here and to enhance the reputation of the University and its industrial sponsors.
- Act to integrate the broad range of expertise among University of Michigan researchers for the development of new technologies and to link them with expertise developed in industry.
